Falkland Islands Revealed
This tailor-made itinerary provides a short introduction to the Falkland Islands, giving travellers an insight into the history and way of life of the islanders and fantastic opportunities for wildlife spotting.
Highlights: Mount Pleasant – Port Howard – Sea Lion Island – Stanley
Mount Pleasant and Darwin
Arrival transfer from Mount Pleasant airport to Darwin.
Named after Charles Darwin, who visited the Islands
in the 1830s, the settlement was established in 1859 as a centre for cattle ranching, and later for sheep farming. At nearby Goose Green you can observe the workings of a typical Falkland farm including sheep shearing in the height of the summer. We can also arrange a visit to the battlefield sites of the 1982 conflict.
Transfer by small local aircraft operated by the Falkland Islands Government Air Service (FIGAS) to Port Howard. We offer the chance to see one the Falklands' most attractive farms in action, with a guided walking tour of the settlement and a full day tour to Fox Bay.
Sea Lion Island
Fly to Sea Lion Island by FIGAS small aircraft. Sea Lion Island is one of the smallest of the islands and is noted for the sheer abundance of wildlife including Black-throated finches, Falkland thrushes and Magellan penguins as well as large numbers of Elephant seal. The island is a designated National Nature Reserve and is free from predators such as cats and rats.
Transfer by FIGAS to Stanley, the capital of the Falkland Islands. With a population of around 2000 it is the
smallest and most remote capital city in the world. Set in a natural harbour, the colourful seaside town has a rich maritime history which will be brought to life in your city tour and visit to the local museum.
Full-day tour to Volunteer Point. With white sandy beach and turquoise waters this is the habitat of Gentoo and King penguins. Usually there is a host of other wildlife to be seen along the beach and in the lagoons.
Depart Mount Pleasant
Transfer to Mount Pleasant airport in time to check in for your international flight.
